Bringing in this high priced talent now must mean that they are planning to make a full-fledged Superbowl run over the next season or two before the new homegrown talent gets expensive- and while the AFC North competition is in flux.

Going for it while Baker is on his rookie deal. 4 more seasons until he gets his 1st big contract.

I remember you telling me @E Rocc that you have a friend in Berea. I'm very intrested to hear who your source suggests we are going after. Lots of rumors it is Earl Thomas in free agency or a trade for Eric Berry.

Browns also pick up KC tight end Demetrius Harris. Excellent blocker and still developing his receiving skills after a career at power forward in college basketball.

Yeah, screw it I'll mention it here, my college roommate and groomsman is a scout for an NFC North team - he insists both teams are attempting to get Eric Berry, which would contradict some earlier reports re: Earl Thomas.

Also, this is why you have football people make football decisions - talking to you Joe Banner and Sashi Brown.

Lane was doubting Earl Thomas would come here, he's hinting towards Eric Berry now (and was this morning)   Who just got cut by KC.

Another name to watch is the greatest name in pro sports:  Ha Ha Clinton-Dix.   Nothing like having a safety with the same name as a November, 2016 GOP taunt.  🙂

‘I couldn’t help myself’: Teen talks about OBJ celebration that led to 911 call

POSTED 10:30 PM, MARCH 13, 2019, BY MELISSA REID, UPDATED AT 11:04PM, MARCH 13, 2019

SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio -- Shaker Heights police responded to a frantic 911 callTuesday night.

“We had just gotten home from getting groceries around 8:30 p.m. Then I heard screaming. At first I thought it was a woman because the screaming was so high-pitched,” said Corita Jackson, who lives on Winslow Road.

Jackson immediately put her kids back in the car.

Yeah, Thomas wasn't going to come here because we've already got a very good player at his position...

My buddy says there are two teams in the running for Berry - his (NFC North team) and us. Though he said his boss told him both the Redskins and 49ers are sitting back and might still want to pursue him more aggressively.

I think it is great that OBJ is coming to Cleveland. Great player if he stays healthy and keeps the drama outside of the sport. He brings a bit of star quality and will bring some shine to Cleveland-he is known as more than an athlete and really is sort of a celebrity and has a large non-sports related following. Minus any injuries and on field/locker room drama, he will be a great asset to Cleveland and the state. Ohio needs some star quality.

As an athlete, he has one of the largest social media followings - globally.

espn app is littered with news this morning of the browns being the big free agency winner.

Funny thing being, we didn't receive our best signing via FA either

I suspect the Browns are going to want to give him a physical before offering a contract. I read Berry saw a specialist who gave him an all-clear and said he didn't need surgery.

As much as I wanted OBJ here, letting Peppers go puts a big hole in our secondary. Kindred is a fine back-up, but that's it. We need a higher quality starter SS  We also need cornerback help with BBC and Gaines leaving. I like Terrance Mitchell as a starting CB probably more than some other fans. We need depth -- will Howard Wilson finally be able healthy and productive?

And who is going to be our starting OLB? And where are we going to find him? KJ Wright is the only decent OLB left in FA, but at his age, is really any better than Jamie Collins was? After the two Devins (White and Bush), this draft is very thin at LB. So what's the plan?? Are we relying on someone named Ray Ray?

We run a 4-3, Avery would do perfectly fine at Will and did at several times last year. Kirko and Schobert will actually have a bit of a more awkward set up, imo, with Kirksey probably playing Sam and Schobert having to play Mike at 240 (which I think is generous). I expect to see Schobert line up wider than the 1 technique in most packages.

But Kirko and Avery are both very serviceable, with Ray Ray being more of a supplemental Will than anything we need to rely on 50+ snaps a game

Kirksey at Sam makes me nervous. He's good at run-stopping but not in coverage. TEs eat him for breakfast.

Sure, but he'll be easier to hide on the strong side when in zone, as most dynamic TE routes start in the boundary and then work their way to the field - though we know that's not always the case. He's good as a SCIF defender (seam, curl, flat) - but on the whole, I agree with you - he struggles when manned up. I just think his positives greatly outweigh that, as he's a great, instinctual player.

There's growing speculation the Browns are offering the rest of their 2019 draft picks and/or a number of players on their roster to fill remaining holes....ie strong safety and linebacker. I would expect that the player(s) are on a team that needs to rebuild and/or is in salary cap trouble. There are also hints that a primary trade target is friends with OBJ and Jarvis may know who Dorsey's target is based on his tweets this evening. Some are speculating it's Von Miller, or at least someone of that caliber.

We're beginning to see signs of what goes on in the NBA, i.e. players finding ways to play on the same team as their friends.  Ironically, Cleveland is the first beneficiary of this after being the opposite in basketball.   I wouldn't expect any short term steps to combat this, as the Browns emerging from 0-16 this quickly is good for marketing as it gives hope to the fans of teams that aren't doing well.

I'm not sure they can do anything to stop it.   You can't really apply tampering rules to players who are personal friends.

We're forgetting that Christian Kirksey was one of the NFL's best linebackers before he got hurt.   Von Miller is possible, but it may be something that happens after June 1 when the cap retention status changes.

A good linebacker can cover TEs. Kirksey can't/doesn't.

No LB's could cover me - no good LB's exist.

lol Just kidding... but in all seriousness, this depends. Kirksey can't guard TE's in the open field. You're spot on @KJP, but good DC's mask this. If Garrett or Vernon line up at a wide 9 technique, they can get a chip on the TE -or- if we do man up, Kirksey can get better at his press off the line, as jamming a TE from a 3 pt stance makes it damn near impossible to get your spacing at the end of the route as a TE.

These obviously don't address him in the open field, but it's ways to mitigate that and allow him to be on the field more, since he brings so much value elsewhere.

So Hunt gets 8 games. He'll be on the field the week before Halloween unless he does something else stupid. Probably want to put the Duke trade talk on ice....

Idk how he doesn't get credit for the 5 games served last season.

I don't get why the Browns didn't sign him for two years, knowing he'd likely miss a good chunk of this year.   And yes, he should have gotten credit for the five games.
