Records, records as far as the eye can see. We are working to get a vinyl record pressing plant set up at Tyler Village. Who knew you needed a huge boiler!?

n751840216_6205453_2846900.jpg

This company will start off with 4 to 8 employees, but it's actually a growing market in the music industry (mostly subsidized by yours truly and his all too frequent trips to Bent Crayon on Detroit and W. 116th). The plant in Nashville started with 8 and grew to over 50 employees, I believe.

any business that has a need for a huge boiler should strongly consider solar thermal (on the roof) as a means for pre-heating boiler water and thereby significantly reducing fuel costs.  there are currently substantial tax credits (Fed & State) as well as a huge variety of State & Federal grants available for this relatively simple and low maintenance technology.

great to hear about the record processing plant - certainly an intriguing physical manifestation of the rock 'n' roll capital of the world!  the connection btwn grooves in vinyl, electrical signals, &  vibrational energy has always amazed me and been reason for much pondering on the means of energy transfer in the universe.

it occurs to me, if one of the studios at tyler has a lathe, one could produce a record from start to finish in the same building.  pretty amazing.

fyi, not development related, but there is a show at Tyler Village this weekend:

3/28 9:30 PM

Front Room Gallery

3615 Superior Ave

Building 42 3rd floor

Corner of 36th and Superior

Pilia-Alexander-Belfi Trio

--------------------------

STEFANO PILIA (Bologna, Italy)

b.1978, Genoa, Italy

guitar, electronics

-solo and member of 3/4 Had Been Eliminated, Medves, SPQ

-collaborated with Black Forest/Black Sea, Giuseppe Ielasi, Renato Rinaldi

-multiple releases on labels such as Die Schachtel, Sedimental, Last Visible Dog, Soleilmoon, Hapna, Time-Lag, more

-has performed at Imaginaria Festival/Bari, Emotion/Milano, Torino Film Festival/Torino, installations: Raum/Bologna, AS220/Providence, Viafarini/Milano

-"Pilia has become Italy's finest music export this year. After his stunning release on Last Visible Dog, it was clear he had little competition. His subsonic drones are a thing of beauty; pulling in and pushing the listener away simultaneously, keeping him or her in a constant state of limboith all things Stefano Pilia does, there is an understated and simple beauty beneath them." (Brad Rose, Foxy Digitalis)

http://www.myspace.com/stefanopilia

JEFFREY ALEXANDER (Pittsburgh, PA)

b.1968, Baltimore, USA

guitar, electronics, tambura

-solo and member of Black Forest/Black Sea, the Iditarod, SPQ

-collaborated with Fursaxa, Kemialliset Ystavat, Christina Carter, Gravenhurst, ES, Avarus

-multiple releases on labels such as Last Visible Dog, Music Fellowship, Time-Lag, Secret Eye, Fonal, more

-has performed at Terrastocks I, V, VI, VII, All Tomorrow's Parties/Minehead, Moonshake/Umea, Zu Fest/Roma, 8mm Festival/Castelfranco, VPRO National Dutch Radio, National Norwegian Radio, BBC Radio, more

-owner Secret Eye Records and Morning Glory Coffeehouse in Pittsburgh

-"Guitar, electronics and various small rackety sounds collect themselves into a haze of infinite possibilities. At certain points there's a sparseness to their approach recalling Charalambides' quiet explosions; at others there's a weird and wooly organic depth closer to some of the contemporary giants of the Finnish underground." (Byron Coley, Harp)

ANDREA BELFI

b.1979, Milano, Italy

drums, percussion, electronics

-solo and member of Medves

-has performed at Netmage Festival/Bologna, Klarafestival/Brussels, Ugglan Festival/Stockholm, Buziol/Venice, VPRO National Dutch Radio, more

-multiple releases on labels such as Die Schachtel, Hapna, Wallace, Last Visible Dog, more

-"The real victory of Belfi is the ease of cohabitation of melody and experiment. Few do it so well" (Jon Dale, The Wire)

A couple of small updates:

international company Hurukuru Inc has opened a small office at Tyler recently.

exciting start-up Red Apple Digital is up and running at the Village.

E Prep is in and having classes.

The Natural History Museum is a new tenant for Tyler.

Ante Up Audio is finishing construction on their expansion space (as mentioned they recently doubled in size and staff)

We are developing incubator spaces in building 31 now that OneCommunity has brought their fiber here. start-ups can get into an office on a 6 month lease that will include access to a 5 Mb connection among other amenities.

The old boiler house is being prepped for demolition, this will provide much needed parking, as well as get rid of one of our only environmental problems on the campus.

What kind of stuff do they do? I just was curious but couldn't find any info on them upon doing a quick search.

I had the Indigo Imp Blonde Bombshell the other night. It was really good, and I'm not even a beer drinker!

Is that a bad sign for those of us that are beer drinkers? :)

Is he related to Art Vandaley from Seinfeld? :-D

That's it.. I couldn't remember what the name was.

Hahaha...this was sitting here for a few days, I'm glad someone finally caught it.  Oh, Seinfeld....

But wow, this tenant mix at Tyler is blowing my mind.  Waaay beyond anything I previously envisioned.  Congrats, willow.

I don't think so, lol.  The mister loved it too, and he's a super duper beer drinker.

I worked in Bldg 44 for a short time when the place was just getting rolling.  I don't anymore but this project, with none of the developer bombast, media coverage, eminent domain threats, etc. is a great example of how to get things done and get them done right.

fyi, secretary of labor and the auto czar were at Tyler village yesterday being hosted by Frank Jackson and Chris Kious of a Piece of Cleveland.

http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2009/06/cleveland_wants_federal_govern.html

CLEVELAND -- Public officials and foundation executives told Labor Secretary Hilda Solis and auto czar Ed Montgomery Wednesday that they needed the federal government's help in turning Northeast Ohio into a bustling green economy.

"We want to ensure that Cleveland is competitive in the emerging green economy," said Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson. "We want to be a leader in creating in jobs."

The two dozen or so people attending the invitation-only breakfast meeting with Solis and Montgomery, said local governments and nonprofits needed more federal funding to create jobs and training programs. They said this money had to come with guidelines flexible enough to spur long-term employment and not just create temporary positions...

Wow. Return. Reuse. Rejoice. You guys just made a grown man get teary-eyed at his desk for no apparent reason (granted, I am a sissy :)). Such a great marketing piece (with several familiar faces) that really highlights what it should ... that quietly, this has become Cleveland's most exciting development project. It's such a travesty that Tyler Village doesn't have the visibility in the general community of, say, Battery Park. You guys are doing absolutely amazing work.

Please, please, please, please start building out a residential section ... I would SERIOUSLY move in a month if you guys would let me :)

thanks all for the kind words. We are proud of this piece for sure and hope to start tying in our print media to it as well. We are very much exploring residential for the west side of campus, obviously there are hurdles, but we believe it would be a near perfect use for it considering the views of downtown and the lake.

I like it! Just to play devil's advocate though - it seemed a bit long for a marketing piece. I felt like I was watching the same thing over and over, a bit repetitive.

There's not much to read, and the pictures are pretty big - perhaps it could run faster?

Take a peek at our new marketing piece. You guys are the first to see this, and it will eventually be on the website with working links etc..

Love it, love it, LOVE IT. EVERY place in Cleveland that wants to market their commercial space should take notes (though perhaps some links could be added for those who want more in-depth info). Other than that - LOVE. IT. (and if you or anyone in the complex could use a designer with 16 years of experience and a work ethic like no other, shoot me a PM ;-) ). Or if you'd like some geek to stop by with a camera and let him go hog wild :-D

If you ever add some business/executive type units I would stay there most definetely. I have laid out thousands to stay at Tremont Place Lofts which are nice, and I thought unique, but they do not undertsand how to take care of people who want a different and special experience. Looks like you have that with Tyler Village. Good Luck!

MayDay, let me know if you want to walk around and snap photo's. You are always welcome. I can't make promises on future work, but tours I can.

Thanks for all the kind words. Residential is piece that makes a whole lot of sense eventually here at Tyler. It's an fascinating project for me personally because I don't know of many opportunities in a city such as Cleveland (Buffalo, Pittsburgh, etc..) where you can control an entire neighborhood, not just a few houses or buildings on a block.

Something that I hope comes across in this video is that we are very interested in our tenant's success. If there is a city program, or contact that we think could help one of our tenants we make sure to get that information in front of them, in some cases we can guide them through the process as well.

thanks for the advice. We will tweak it at some point next year, but this will be what we go with for a while

Just adding my opinion .. I agree. Maybe you could break it up into several videos covering a different facet of TV?

But it's definitely really beautifully done .. this is a fantastic project in the city, for sure. The spaces look amazing.

thank you. We believe that companies like Gotta Groove Records or Indigo Imp, though production facilities, mix well with companies like Sparkbase and DigiKnow. We hoped to convey that some in the presentation.
