^^As more people are making the details known, it sounds like this woman was being inappropriate by any standard, straight or gay, and she's trying to extend her 15 minutes of fame.  I have trouble feeling bad for this one.

Well for one thing, kissing after eating garlic fries. I'm surprised her partner wasn't the one who made the complaint.

The usher, Guerrero said, told them he had received a complaint from a woman nearby who said that there were kids in the crowd of nearly 36,000 and that parents would have to explain why two women were kissing.

There is a point where the old saying "get a room" applies regardless of one's sexual orientation. That doesn't seem to be the case here unless there are more "details" that we don't know about.

I completely agree. And lets face it, if it were a guy and a girl doing this, no one would say a word! I mean if they had their hands down each others pants, thats one thing. But a kiss is hardly something to get worked up about. Just goes to show, there are ignorant people, even in the most Liberal of place!

Bingo!

Ack...I'll try to find the link.  I too am a hater of unsubstantiated claims, my bad.

This is the official statement put out by the Mariners after their investigation:

"The Seattle Mariners have completed an internal review of an incident that occurred during a game on Monday, May 26, in which a same sex couple claimed that they were singled out by Safeco Field personnel because of their sexual orientation.

After reviewing all the reports and interviewing those directly involved in this incident, we believe that our staff acted appropriately because they were responding to the behavior of the couple involved, not because of the couple's sexual orientation.

Our goal is to foster an atmosphere at Safeco Field that is welcoming to all fans. The Seattle Mariners, and all Major League Baseball teams, have codes of conduct that outline behavior that are not conducive to a safe, comfortable and enjoyable atmosphere at the ballpark. The code, which is posted on all gates and is read over the public address system before each game, is enforced based only on behavior and not on the identity of those involved.

---------------------------

It sounds to me like after being asked to tone it down, these girls couldn't play the discrimination card fast enough.  I'm no right-wing crazy, but it seems that "Mariners Discriminate Against Lesbians" was the better headline than "Well, perhaps upon further review, the Mariners acted responsibly when confronted with an awkward PDA situation."  This same thing happens to straight couples all the time, they just don't complain about it like this girl did.  Again, I think she got embarrassed, tried to turn it on the Mariners staff as discrimination, and then they decided "Screw them, I'm going to the press with my story."  She's already proven she'll do pretty much anything for publicity.

I hate real discrimination with a passion, and it annoys me when people lump their non-discriminatory situations in with the real injustices because it paints the whole crowd as self-victimizing.  It increases the likelihood that real issues won't be addressed because the girl who cried wolf ruined it for future cases.

^That's freakin' crazy.  Trying to take away all rights for a people group with a single referendum is not the way to be seen as a religious group people people should be interested in.  Pick and choose your battles...

^Hopefully sensible people will realize that there are truly evil bigots in the world who would prefer to see us dead. I'm sure the Christian Civic League of Maine would try to foist their hate off as "hating the sin, not the sinner".

In spite of their desires, by law they can't round us up and kill us outright. So instead they try to enact legislation that vaporizes what little protection we have, and would make our lives miserable (enabling job and housing discrimination based on sexual orientation thus depriving us of income and a home). Good "christian" folk, indeed. I wouldn't be surprised if Ken Blackwell has contributed to their cause.

LOL I'm a gay, I'm ALLOWED. lol

No, you're not - at least not on this forum. I totally agree with you - there are some inappropriate twits who have no sense of decorum, but I personally despise that term and I don't want to see it on this forum again. Please, and thank you :-)

"And then there are Fags. These are people who act in a stereotypical manor"

I'm presuming you've heard of the Stonewall Riots - however, I'm guessing you aren't aware that it wasn't the "good decent people" throwing bricks, fighting against unjust police raids and causing a national incident which brought needed visibility to our cause. No, it was the freaks, the queens and the "stereotypical" gays who fought back and thanks to people like them, you and I get to enjoy a little more freedom in our lives as "good decent people". Not enough freedom, but certainly more than those people did. Be very careful how you judge others - especially those in your own community.

I have to agree with the HBIC!  I'm sure you meant it in a "light hearted" way, in your own mind.  However, when those terms are used, I think a person needs to have some sort of rapport with the person you're using that term with.

Having said that, you do realize none of us (AKA "my people") here know you well enough to allow you to refer to us "cigarettes"!

Folks, when an Admin makes a polite request to refrain from certain behaviors, it's probably not a good idea to call them things like "an overly sensitive queen" via private messages. What could have been left as a reprimand, or a few days off instead resulted in a two week vacation for our friend Chad. There's being cute, there's agreeing to disagree, and then there's being a f#cking pr!ck which has unfortunate consequences.

So how about California? So is it legal to get married there now or is it still illegal without a specific ban like it was here in Ohio? I'm still amazed that such a "liberal" state took that long.

^

Its legal until the state Consitution is amended, which is the big fight now.

California is probably not as liberal as you think, since both Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan got their political starts there.  And Rush Limbaugh became popular first in the Sacramento radio market (though, sort of like Cincy, the city is a lot more liberal than the surrounding suburbs and rural areas).

Heading up to places like Yuba City, Marysville, and Colusa, in the "Big Valley", its even more conservative than Ohio

I appreciate this.

There are forums where its OK to use this term, while certain other racial/religous slurs are verboten.  So I really appreciate there not being a "lesser standard" for the GLBT community at UO in re slurs.

Thanks

What?

that was quite a read.  I just find those things very interesting as I thought I was the "only one".  I didnt know what gay meant or that I was gay, I just knew I was different.

HAHA, I knew something was different when I was 10.  I was watching the movie Leave It to Beaver and thought that Wally (Erik von Detten) was incredibly attractive.  I didn't really know what that meant, but I'd figured it out over the next few years.

By 8th grade, I'd discovered porn.  Of course, I was a clueless about the internet, so my dad quickly discovered porn too.  I was outed by my Dad in 8th grade, December 15th, 2001.  Since that day I've not told one lie to my parents and our relationship has grown ever since.

That's my story.

BTW, I was out to dinner with my mom, when a bunch of my gay friends stopped by.  Afterward, my mom said, "Why don't any attractive men like women anymore.  What's wrong with women?"

I responded with, "there's nothing wrong with women, Mom.  We're all just doing our part to control the overpopulation problem."

She thought that answer was good enough.  HAHA, I love her.

The Wiz!  HAHA, I love that musical.  I played the character of the Wiz in high school.  It sucked because I had to learn the whole thing in a day.  I was in the chorus, but the first night of the production all of the Seniors in the play showed up drunk.  (It was a hilarious show)  But they all got kicked out and the parts were filled the next day.  When they came to me with the part of the Wiz, I freaked out.  I spent a good 5 hours cramming before the show.

BTW, the movie is terrifying.

Star Trek's George Takei Gets Married

George Takei and his longtime partner, Brad Altman, were wed Sunday evening in a Buddhist ceremony in downtown Los Angeles.

"All I can remember is what the priest said," Takei told PEOPLE after the ceremony. "That this moment will never happen again. It's something to savor."

Nearly 200 of the couple's friends attended the event, which began as a kimono-clad koto player plucked out tunes on the ancient Japanese stringed instrument. Afterward, the couple sipped sake from red lacquer cups, then said their vows to one another while standing within a circle of yellow rose petals.

Jeez, some of these employees/companies/reps have got to learn one day that they cannot discriminate against people and get away with it, unless they want to pay for their actions. Not anymore.
