Cleveland: Downtown: The Beacon

Recommended Posts

Looks like a decent amount of the tower crane has been set up.  It's now visible above some of the downtown buildings!!!

So nice to see this on the skyline!!!

Even without the tower crane, that's just a really cool shot of downtown. I don't think I've ever seen it from that angle before.

^agreed, awesome shot

Thanks.  It definitely is an interesting perspective of the city (and it'll be a different angle to view the new construction).  I'll try to keep the pics coming to update the progress!!!

Even though one of these cranes is just temporary, it's nice to see 2 of them up in the air.  Hopefully fairly soon we'll have at least one more crane up over the city to continue the building!!!

Is the crane that was just constructed at the max height already or will it be raised as the building is built?

No.  There will be another section added once they reach the max height of the current crane

It's close to 200,000 lbs of counter weight

I wonder if there are supports under the crane on the other floors of the garage.  That is a lot of weight to support.

Yes, there is. When we were looking at the project, the crane needed to be re-shored all of the way down the garage to the basement slab.

Typically, in a project like this, when would the pre-leasing process begin?

It would be nice to have a majority of the units leased before the building reaches max height. I think it would also bode well for NuCLEus.

^^So here is an interesting Ohio Bar Exam Question.  Can Stark be sued and held liable for all the motor vehicle accidents which are going to occur on the highways due to the fact that Urban Ohio members are not paying attention to the roadway but looking for cranes.  Interesting proximate cause discussion.

I know the folks that operate tower cranes make good money, but it's not nearly enough to get me to sit in one of those...especially when it's secured down by counter weights on top of a parking garage.  Clearly once the 515 starts going up, it will be anchored to the structure.

Thankfully, I'm immune and not just because I usually take the RTA downtown. Rather, you can't see the crane while coming into downtown across the West Shoreway bridge. 200 Public Square blocks it.

So now that they have pretty much finished setting up the tower crane.  They'll open the lanes that they're going to on Euclid at some point this weekend.  Can / should we expect construction to start on Monday??

There was a very slim window where I saw it yesterday heading across the bridge. Also you can see it from Edgewater.
