Jean-Robert reopens Frenchie Fresh

French Master Chef Jean-Robert de Cavel reopened one of his restaurants after it shuttered briefly to move to a new location.

De Cavel's Frenchie Fresh announced on April 20 that it was closing at its original Rookwood Exchange location at 3831 Edwards Road. On Aug. 28 it celebrated its grand reopening at 5595 Deerfield Blvd. in Mason's Deerfield Towne Center.

Frenchie Fresh first opened at Rookwood in September 2016. It was a more casual approach for de Cavel, who first came to Cincinnati to head up the Maisonette, a restaurant synonymous with fine dining in the Queen City. The restaurant's focus is on hamburgers on American buns or French bread with a variety of toppings along with macaroni and cheese and other sides.

Gotta keep track of that stuff in case a dame tries to drag you someplace shitty, tho

Like you gotta be ready in case the place gets to charge you $17 for a burger because there's a vegetable bowl there she likes... in the same way ice cream places get to have crappy food because little kids will force you to eat there... or how sports bar salads suck...

IDK people are just going to have to figure it all out somehow.

Something new is open in the former Alto Pizza space next to Braxton

A new restaurant from a group with roots in Covington is now open in the former Alto Pizza Kitchen space adjacent to Braxton Brewing Co.

Parlor on 7th opened mid-August at 43 W. Seventh St. in Covington as part of the $67 million Duveneck Square mixed-use development. Flip through the photos for a look at its menu.

Josh Rhodes, owner of Molly Malone's Irish Pub & Restaurant in Covington, is part of the group that opened Parlor. He told me that the restaurant is a love letter to the Northern Kentucky city.

Completely renovated Oakley bar reopens

A longtime Oakley pub is unveiling its new look – and menu – tonight after an extensive renovation by its new owners.

The Establishment was taken over by brothers Troy and Brendan McAndrews, owners of McAndrews Glass, in February. They closed the bar at 2900 Wasson Way, which has called Oakley home for 35 years, on June 17 for renovation and are hosting its grand reopening on Sept. 20. Flip through the photos for a look inside.

Troy McAndrews told me that the Establishment previously had a reputation as an aggressive drinking bar. He and his brother wanted to shake that image, turning it into a family-friendly restaurant and pub along with a dog-friendly patio.

Are there other, non-southern inspired fast casual chicken salad restaurant concepts? Based on a quick google search, there are not.

Yeah the last time I was there, during that ill-fated Pittsburgh playoff game back in 2015~, the bartender (who was wearing Stealers garb) traded punches with Bengals patrons and the thing spilled out the side door next to the bar.

agaveryelibertydesign1*750xx1491-839-78-

A fast-growing Covington-based restaurant chain that serves unconventional tacos has set an opening date for its third location.

Agave & Rye will open Oct. 27 at Butler County's Liberty Center in the former Cantina Laredo space, the Journal-News reports.

In August, the Courier reported that the restaurant signed a 10-year lease for the approximately 5,100-square-foot space.

Agave & Rye’s menu features 17 “Epic” tacos, seven street tacos, 76 tequilas, 87 bourbons, craft cocktails, and beer and wine. The restaurant borrows from other culinary traditions and puts the results into a taco tortilla, such as the Crown Jewel with butter poached lobster, sautéed mushrooms, mac and cheese, truffle oil and green onions.

Upcoming steakhouse in former Anchor OTR space gets name

The upcoming steakhouse in the former Anchor OTR space that's being opened by the chef of a downtown restaurant has a new name.

Crown Republic Gastropub owner Anthony Sitek and his wife, Haley Nutter-Sitek, announced the name of their upcoming steakhouse at 1401 Race St. on Oct. 3: Losanti. The name pays homage to Cincinnati's original name as the settlement of Losantiville in 1788. The restaurant is scheduled to open this month.

Losanti will feature steaks by the ounce, seafood, frites and a variety of menu items from Crown Republic, the Siteks' first restaurant that opened on Sycamore Street last summer.

Owner of Banks restaurant taking over former Cock & Bull at Hyde Park Square

The owner of a restaurant and nightclub at the Banks in downtown Cincinnati is expanding outside of the city’s core, opening a new modern Mexican restaurant in the former Cock & Bull space on Hyde Park Square.

Peerless Management Group, owners of Galla Park at the Banks, is opening Mesa Loca at 2645 Erie Ave. in Hyde Park. The goal is to open late October or early November. That spot formerly housed Cock & Bull, which closed in that location in May after eight years in operation.

One Peerless owner, Michael Mercer, told me that his group bought out one of the owners of Cock & Bull. JoAnn Serdar of Entertainment Properties brokered that deal.

“The location itself is, in my opinion, one of the iconic corners in the city,” Mercer said.

8th and English, bit the dust in O'bryonville. That space is just a dead zone. Nothing can stay open in the space. I think part of it has to do with Grandin Properties as landlord. They seem to have high rates on that space and the space next door that has been a million different concepts as well.

Seeing posts on social media saying CHX in Pendleton has closed.

According to CHX Instagram they have closed day to day business but will still serve their food for events at 3 points.

You would think beer and fried chicken would be a popular combination so it's slightly surprising things didn't work.

We had three chicken finger places open in OTR/Pendleton/Downtown at right about the same time, so it's not surprising all three didn't survive. (Not to mention several hot chicken places if you want to put them all into the same category.) Both CityBird and Money Chicken are closer to more office workers so they were easier lunch destinations than CHX. Pendleton is a somewhat inconvenient place for most CBD and OTR office workers to go for lunch. I'm sure CHX did great on weekend nights with Three Points customers but that's probably not enough to sustain a business.

They also deleted their original Instagram post which said that said CHX will remain open for special events "as we explore more uses for the space." That made it sound like they are going to eventually come up with a different restaurant concept for that space, but I know that the owners are tied up with several other projects right now including the second Nation location and their new food hall near Findlay Market.

Another OTR restaurant I never heard of until I read here that it closed.  Checked on streetview - no illuminated sign.  Doesn't even look like it's a restaurant.

It's like, Ron's Roost has a chicken on the roof.  I bet they serve chicken.

It's not closed they are changing their business model to use the space for events and small parties and will still serve the same food.

And it's not a restaurant, it's a grab and go with a few sit down tables, that is attatched to 3 points Brewery.

Condado Tacos sets opening date for Oakley location

Condado Tacos, the Columbus-based tacos and tequila restaurant, has set an opening date for its second location in Cincinnati.

Brides inspired Gorilla Cinema's newest bar

gcpgsownersshoot1katietrevinojaredbeckma

The newest venture by Gorilla Cinema, whose growing hospitality empire includes Tarantino-inspired Video Archive and downtown karaoke lounge Tokyo Kitty, turns an eye toward brides.

Gorilla Cinema's newest concept is the Golden Sparrow at 20 W. Benson St. in Reading. The creative hospitality group is behind the Overlook Lodge, inspired by Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining;" Video Archive, a speakeasy inspired by the works of Quentin Tarantino; Tokyo Kitty, a Japanese-style karaoke bar with private rooms, and the Lonely Pine Steakhouse, an upscale steakhouse that takes its inspiration from Route 66 roadside eateries.

It wouldn't be disingenuous to say that the Golden Sparrow is more personal for the company – all of its bars are, like the upcoming Ofrenda Tequila bar inspired by co-founder Jacob Trevino's Mexican grandparents and heritage – but this one came from the marriage of Trevino and his wife and co-founder, Katie.

O Pie O, the East Walnut Hills restaurant known for its sweet and savory pies, is opening a second location in Over-the-Rhine.

A downtown Asian restaurant, a second location for a concept that entered Cincinnati through Hyde Park, has a new chef and leadership team in advance of its forthcoming opening.

E+O New Asian, which is slated to open in about three weeks at 645 Walnut St. in the former Ivy Lounge, is now being overseen by San Francisco chef Rodelio "The Food Buddha" Aglibot, and chef Gene Frondoso is coming to Cincinnati from Chicago to head up its kitchen.

The upcoming spot is a second Cincinnati-area location for E+O, which stands for Earth + Ocean. The concept originally opened at 3250 Edwards Road in Hyde Park in 2015.

Hey let's borrow $400,000 from our family and open a business people don't hear about and don't know what we do.

I had the same exact thought when I tried going there yesterday...  (yeah I did see the followup post).   Also this kind of sh*t (we are a good place that is now only an event space) is so Cincinnati... 😕

Btw, I knew about the place because of its sign that had been up for a very long time announcing that it would open soon...

I should have read this forum before doing my thanksgiving family visit so I would have known that CHX was basically closed.  I think they literally had the coming soon sign up longer than the damn place was actually open.
