The new Firehouse Row Apartments and the work going on on East McMillan will probably add a lot of residents with decent amount of disposable income. Does anyone know how many units all the projects going on in Walnut Hills proper will add? Sorry being lazy in case anyone had the numbers more readily available.

Just some off the cuff numbers but looks like the Poste or "Firehouse Row" as it was previously called is added 91 one or studio units and 33 x 2 bedroom units so potential for 160 or so new residents.

Paramount Square project is added 44 market rate apartments or say maybe 60 residents.

So these two projects are adding 220 or so new residents at Market Rates which should help businesses in the area when they are open. I also think there is more going on than just those two proejcts in the area.

It doesn't look open, which means it doesn't look welcoming.  The block looks the same as it did before they spent gobs of money rehabbing the building.

I will agree with that. The existing sign from when it was actually a "Public Comfort Station" is supposed to be the sign. My biggest pet peeve with the exterior is that its hard to tell which door to go in for the entrance. Yes its the blue door, but some people will try the beige door.

So all these super-niche unprofitable OTR shops are just going to take the "Detroit Family Video" approach to stay relevant, right?

They're hobby businesses.  If they were in it for the long haul, they'd know that they need to own the building.

Maybe if they had an illuminated sign I would have known they were there.  I've only walked past that spot a few dozen times this year.

New details emerge on soon-to-open downtown bagel shop

When the Business Courier reported last month that Einstein Bros. Bagels was coming downtown, there weren't many more details than a sign in the doorway of the old Richter & Phillips space.

Now we know it will be opening the week of Feb. 27 at 202 E. Sixth St. downtown. It will be the third Cincinnati-area location joining Clifton and Highland Heights.

Even though Cantina Laredo, an upscale Mexican restaurant chain that opened its first Cincinnati-area location at Liberty Center, closed this week, the leasing team for the $250 million mixed-use development has already backfilled the space.

Agave & Rye, a taco and tequila restaurant that has grown to two locations, will open a third location in the Cantina Laredo space. The restaurant signed a 10-year lease for the approximately 5,100-square-foot space.

It seems like a massive troll. Like, Cincinnati is trolled because the metro obviously prefers Skyline. And the rest of the state is trolled because it's a Cincinnati chili chain (which itself would be controversial) and isn't even available in most of the state.

A+ trolling, Food & Wine.

New-to-market chicken salad concept opening in September

A new-to-market chicken salad chain will open its first Greater Cincinnati location next month, with plans to open two additional restaurants here later this year.

Chicken Salad Chick, which bills itself as the only Southern-inspired, fast casual chicken salad restaurant concept in the U.S., announced Wednesday that it will open its second Ohio restaurant on Sept. 10 at 7919 Beechmont Ave. in Anderson Township. The Auburn, Ala.-based chain opened its first Ohio location on June 12 in Westerville.

The Business Courier reported in June that the chain would open a location this fall at Snider Commons shopping center. The opening date for that location is Oct. 1, a spokeswoman told me. She said the fast-growing chain plans to open a third Greater Cincinnati location in Oakley in the fourth quarter of this year.

Or they do know, and they know that putting Gold Star #1 in Ohio is going to make the rest of Ohio mad because it's exclusive to the Cincinnati region and it's going to make Cincinnati made because it's the worst representation of Cincinnati chili. Gotta get those page views for ad revenue.

Gotta keep track of that stuff in case a dame tries to drag you someplace shitty, tho

Like you gotta be ready in case the place gets to charge you $17 for a burger because there's a vegetable bowl there she likes... in the same way ice cream places get to have crappy food because little kids will force you to eat there... or how sports bar salads suck...

Jean-Robert reopens Frenchie Fresh

French Master Chef Jean-Robert de Cavel reopened one of his restaurants after it shuttered briefly to move to a new location.

De Cavel's Frenchie Fresh announced on April 20 that it was closing at its original Rookwood Exchange location at 3831 Edwards Road. On Aug. 28 it celebrated its grand reopening at 5595 Deerfield Blvd. in Mason's Deerfield Towne Center.

Frenchie Fresh first opened at Rookwood in September 2016. It was a more casual approach for de Cavel, who first came to Cincinnati to head up the Maisonette, a restaurant synonymous with fine dining in the Queen City. The restaurant's focus is on hamburgers on American buns or French bread with a variety of toppings along with macaroni and cheese and other sides.

Completely renovated Oakley bar reopens

A longtime Oakley pub is unveiling its new look – and menu – tonight after an extensive renovation by its new owners.

The Establishment was taken over by brothers Troy and Brendan McAndrews, owners of McAndrews Glass, in February. They closed the bar at 2900 Wasson Way, which has called Oakley home for 35 years, on June 17 for renovation and are hosting its grand reopening on Sept. 20. Flip through the photos for a look inside.

Troy McAndrews told me that the Establishment previously had a reputation as an aggressive drinking bar. He and his brother wanted to shake that image, turning it into a family-friendly restaurant and pub along with a dog-friendly patio.

Yeah the last time I was there, during that ill-fated Pittsburgh playoff game back in 2015~, the bartender (who was wearing Stealers garb) traded punches with Bengals patrons and the thing spilled out the side door next to the bar.
