Endless War

I'm wholly convinced that a war with Iran would be disastrous for the US. Suicidal, maybe. They can do far more damage with way fewer resources than we can do to them.

How will we pay for it, though?

That hasn't been a problem for any previous war and it won't be now

How can you say that when no one knows what the long-term financial ramifications will be from all of this debt and deficit-spending that has been incurred since the start of the Iraq war. This is a bill that we'll have to pay for decades, with interest, and China is holding much of the paper.

Furthermore, money spent on war is an opportunity cost. The money that we spend on war is money that we cannot spend on other things. We'll never know what we could have had or chose not to invest in because the money wasn't there or it wasn' the right time for it because resources were being committed elsewhere.

"Most of us have been conditioned to regard military combat as exciting and glamorous -- an opportunity for men to prove their competence and courage. Since armies are legal, we feel that war is acceptable; in general, nobody feels that that war is criminal or that accepting it is a criminal attitude. In fact, we have been brainwashed. War is neither glamorous nor attractive. It is monstrous. Its very nature is one of tragedy and suffering" --Dalai Lama

I was referring to the ease at which war spending is allocated. Money just seems to appear for these things. It's rather amazing.

Not sure why you needed to remind everyone why war spending is bad, but yes, it is. I don't know if the stories of Afghanis faking Taliban encampments just to collect the bomb fragments for scrap are true. But either way, the human and monetary costs are terrible.
