Historic eatery near Dayton to reopen under new ownership

screen-shot-2019-12-26-at-52232-pm*750xx

An ownership group plans to breathe new life — including dozens of new jobs — into a historic eatery in Warren County that closed late last year.

Renovations are nearly complete at 5527 Oregonia Road in Oregonia — the former site of the Little River Cafe on the banks of the Little Miami River. The new business, Little River Bar and Grill, is expected to open by January 23, said Crystal Stewart, one of three owners in the family-owned venture.

Stewart and her relatives, co-owners Dale and Tonya Lusby, were avid customers of the cafe before its abrupt closure in December 2018, she said. Their love for the business influenced the decision to revive it.

Back Home Tavern & Table is a welcomed new addition to the Brown Street area near the University of Dayton. It fills the space left behind by Romer's Bar & Grill, and before that Bargos Grill & Tap. The restaurant boasts scratch-made food and bar bites inspired by the restaurants and recipes of Idaho - think good fries and comfort food. Here’s what I found there on a rainy afternoon...

New cafe-bar coming to Fire Blocks District in downtown Dayton

A new establishment that will serve as a cafe by day and a bar by night is making its way to downtown Dayton.

The Little Gem Social Club is slated to open at 132 E. Third St. in the Fire Blocks District. Owner Robert Myers, a California man who grew up in the Dayton region, recently signed a lease for the new cafe-bar and is currently working on the design phase of the project. He's not sure when it will open, as the spread of the coronavirus has thrown business development efforts into somewhat of a tailspin, but he said he is excited to share the news.

"I was supposed to fly out a day after they locked us down in California," Myers told me in an exclusive interview. "I still have some stuff to wrap up in California and coronavirus obviously disrupted everyone's plans, but I'm excited to finally move forward with this."
