**Current Events Notice**

Recommended Posts

Folks, I realize these are difficult times in the world.  Polarizing opinions on the rise with civility in shambles.  Well, not on UrbanOhio.

From hence forth, ANYONE that exhibits trolling behavior, loves to bicker without a point, or threatens anyone will be in for a SWIFT suspension.  Our suspension policy for the Currents Events section is as follows:

1st Suspension: 2 weeks

2nd Suspension: 2 months

3rd Suspension: 2 years

I cannot believe I have to reiterate having a civil, adult conversation on here but here we are.  You may post APPROPRIATE articles and have a civil discussion (that includes CIVIL debates) but the SECOND it goes over the line, that forumer will be suspended.  Period.  There will be no questions, like a North Korean prison.  Just act like an adult and you'll be fine.  For forumers that you may want to see who's posts in Current Events are quality, look at Gramarye, Taestell, or ryanlammi for great examples.

And please, try not to use insulting language towards anyone, including the current president.

Thank you.

relevant to recent discussions around here.  There seems to be a running theme of politically correct hot takes filling current events that incite outrage leading to emotional backlashes towards other forum members.  If this forum is going to be one of respectful dialogue, some attention needs to be given to how topics are introduced.

Instead of calling out others for being less politically correct and scoring fake social justice points, isn't it more helpful as a forum to seek data for reasons why social events are occurring?  Cleveland.com has all sorts of political comments to correct if that's your cup of tea, take it there.

Trolling and back-and-forth bickering is not permitted on UrbanOhio. However, it is perfectly fine to people to be outraged at current events and express that on this forum in the proper ways. It's insulting to suggest that anyone who expresses outrage at current events is simply "scoring fake social justice points." Respect for different opinions needs to work both ways.

also a reminder that when you mention hot button issues and words like the word trump for example you immediately attract professional russian military trolling and that ilk who promote divisiveness across the usa.

so be good and don't fall for bait from low post count strangers.

here is a recent article about that -- at least describing what a serious and more and more organized problem it is:

How Much of the Internet Is Fake? Turns Out, a Lot of It, Actually.

By Max Read

...How much of the internet is fake? Studies generally suggest that, year after year, less than 60 percent of web traffic is human; some years, according to some researchers, a healthy majority of it is bot. For a period of time in 2013, the Times reported this year, a full half of YouTube traffic was “bots masquerading as people,” a portion so high that employees feared an inflection point after which YouTube’s systems for detecting fraudulent traffic would begin to regard bot traffic as real and human traffic as fake. They called this hypothetical event “the Inversion.”...
