Great photo PaulinCleveland! 

Despite what had been projected to be a building that would fade into the city's grey or sunny skies, instead it has a definitive and dramatic impact on the city's skyline.

It looks nice and will probably look even better on a sunny day.  I wish the US Bank building on the right wasn't so dark.

I don't know... I kind of like the contrast that building provides in that spot.

While not historical, this building takes my breath away with such a strong Euclid presence.

I love it, I've been in carpentry classes this week out in Richfield. Heading back north to Parma on 77, you get that view of downtown as soon as you get over the hill by Independence. But you've always been able to see the far eastern half of downtown way before the rest of downtown thanks to the angle of approach, and I actually mistook the Lumen for the Erie View plaza the other day. 

It has a very dramatic effect on the skyline, it's height and white lines help it stick out from a distance. My favorite part about it though, is that it elongates our skyline from the southern view. It reminds me of Philadelphia after they built the first Comcast Tower (although to a lesser extent) because it made Philadelphia's skyline look more imposing. That's what the Lumen does for ours, too.

When you think of the most recent additions to the CBD skyline, the Hilton, the Beacon, the Lumen and soon, City Club, there's nothing ordinary about any of them.

With the Lumen in the distance you can just imagine the City Club project in the foreground.  I'm guessing this may have been taken from the Beacon.

 

 

That's stunning. And that's also a good guess considering Matt Sexton works at Stark Enterprises.

National City Bank (PNC) was always a standout. As I recall, it was, dare I say it, the first modern white building built in the CBD . It's unfortunate that it resulted in the demolition of the somewhat futuristic looking Bonds Department Store building, but it's been a welcome, albeit dramatic departure from the typical brown, beige and gray.

Maybe like horizontal striped on a shirt make a person look wider; the vertical stripes give it a perceived boost in height?

Aesthetically, they break up the expanses of monotonous glass and as ASPhotoman suggested, they provide a visual element to draw the eye upward.

 

Also, there have been other reasons for pushback on all-glass facades.

I also just noticed that the glass on the east and north sides only is articulated to produce different planes. Verticle stripes on those sides would not align with the articulation.

Fair point, although that $3.80 a sq ft at the Beacon is only for those few terrace-level units with wraparound balconies. The rest of the building is more in the $2.80-$3.00 range. 
 

I really hope the Lumen does well and I’m sure it will, but it will be without us. We were looking for a 3br for our next move this summer, but those prices for that sq footage is totally out of the question. For similar, or less money at the Scofield or 9 you can get way more space and probably better finishes.

Spoke with leasing.  These prices are right.  Wonder if it includes anything
