Population change in Great Lakes metro areas and other metros 2000-2015 - new Americans are helping to reduce/counteract population loss. Just not in Greater Cleveland which has one of the worst records of attracting immigrants despite a few cities within the metro that do a better job, like Lakewood which has supportive programs for new Americans....

What a pathetic inability to comprehend the American Dream...

ICE is basically full of the same type of people who think bragging about sexual assault is normal bro talk and who shoot innocent kids with toy guns and then blame the kids for acting irresponsibly.  They get their rocks off on destroying lives.  The usual suspects will, of course, say nothing about it.

Dear God. If you click that link, Melania looks like Donald Trump with that scowl and that crazy look in her eye.

That's an extremely fascinating article. It seems as though the EB-1 visa was initially intended to bring exceptionally intelligent or skilled workers into the United States, for our benefit.

The problem that I see with that, is that it's much more beneficial for our society to grant that sort of visa to doctors or engineers; folks who obviously would contribute a lot and benefit our society.

In Melania's case, she was essentially granted this kind of visa for being highly skilled in 'being 'hot.' A model's looks decline rapidly. A doctor or engineer's skill set grows. Not to mention, modeling is a profession that just doesn't contribute to the betterment of society in any significant way; I mean lets be honest.

She was essentially allowed to stay here because she's 'eye candy.' Well, she's no spring chicken anymore so I say the gig is up. Ship her back to where she came from.

Green card-holding veteran facing deportation moved to detention facility as family lashes out

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-met-green-card-veteran-moved-20180227-story.html

A green card is a privilege and it is (as it should be) revoked if the holder is found guilty of an aggravated felony as defined by immigration law. The article says "crimes" so I assume that means this guy has multiple felony convictions. This shouldn't even be a news story - take his green card away and give it to someone else who is waiting for one, someone who (hopefully) won't commit aggravated felonies.

Even though it appears the traumatic experience says he had in the military may have contributed to his drug abuse? I think this man has earned his green card, more than many citizens have earned their right to stay. And that certainly includes our corrupt, rapist president.

He has one felony cocaine conviction and a misdemeaner marijuana possession. His life began to fall apart when he was kicked out of the military for smoking marijuana.

^^ I had to dig deep and ended up on a right-wing site to find this, as every mainstream source omitted the details (for some reason?): he was charged for trafficking in 2008, and served half of his 15 year sentence. The deportation hearings began when he was released from jail back in 2016, prior to Trump's presidency. This was all by the book under Obama's administration.

Anyway, if this had been a lesser charge of possession it'd be a different story and discretion might be warranted. But that's not the case, he isn't just a user, he's a distributor.

Trump is bashing California and Gov. Brown. California's biggest problem is that it is being held back by being in the United States...

- 6th largest economy in the world.

- Continually outpaces the U.S. in job growth.

- Turned a 2010 deficit into a record surplus.

- Leads the national economy from personal income to high-wage jobs and more.

https://t.co/hF1wufJ9L0

I agree with you, Trump's attacks on Brown were largely baseless and unfair. But, there is a MASSIVE exodus from some areas of California right now due to the cost of living there. That is an issue that needs to be fixed - and, to be fair, isn't entirely on Gov. Brown either.

California is not losing people.  It has grown by 2.282 million people since 2010, which is 2nd only to Texas.  When people talk about California losing people, they are exclusively talking about domestic migration, where it's lost about 560,000 since 2010.  However, international migration more than makes up for it so that net migration has been more than half a million, the 3rd highest of any state.  It also has the #1 natural growth total of any state.  So when people say the state is having some "massive exodus", they need to be very careful with that.  28 states lose population domestically, including Ohio.  Most of them are not expensive or overtly liberal states.  Simply put, if people want to suggest that California is doing poorly, population isn't really a very good argument for that.
