What are you trying to prove here?  If you’re going to throw out random figures, can you please at least offer what you’re trying to show with them?

I thought those figures were pretty specific, from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. I was accused of providing a "wrong" opinion (below) as a response to my assertion (see two down) that lots of people still desire to immigrate to the US despite your melodramatic claim that "Trump’s scaring away everyone." Sometimes you just have to go back a few posts to find the relevant context. Sorry if I was unclear.

You do realize that a backlog doesn't represent an increase in immigration, right? It means only that USCIS hasn't processed enough immigration requests to reduce the pending amount. A growing backlog means that the only increase as come from unprocessed immigration applications, not that there are more immigrants. You ASSUMED that it is resulting from an increase in immigrants, not from USCIS refusing, or neglecting, or delaying or merely taking more time to process them. But that's what knee-jerk conservatives do. They don't think. They react. Like, assuming that I said you weren't allowed to have an opinion. That's reactionary. What is wrong is coming to a presumptive conclusion, again, and again, and....

yes, and I never said that. It could be that immigration has actually decreased. I don't know why I have to keep going back to my original statement, but it seems so many people don't understand it. I said:

The fact (if you believe the figure in the article) is that there is a backlog of 5,591,839 cases! I'm not sure if that number represents only new claims for immigration, but it's still a hell of a lot of people, so to say Trump's policies (or statements, or whatever) have somehow dampened the desire for people to come here is total nonsense.

It's all relative, though.  The US is a large country, and half a million immigrants would still seem like a lot, just not nearly what used to come. Immigration has been collapsing since 2016.  Either Trump has been making it harder for legal immigration (which easily explain the backlog and is even mentioned in the article) or there are fewer immigrants trying to come.  Or both.  Regardless of what it is, Trump is responsible.

Definite Godwin's Law violation there, though.   Deportation is not concentration....

Both can lead to the death of the people effected, so I say it's a pretty fair comparison.  And the symbolism is pretty obvious.  Godwin's Law isn't protection for peddling actual Nazi methods of operation for removing minorities for reasons inspired by actual Nazi ideals of ethnic nationalism.

^This!!

You can't write off any mention of Nazis when someone is literally proposing doing something for the optics of what happened during the Holocaust.

Immigrants are a net contributor to our communities, states and country. If you don't want immigrants, that says more about you (and your lack of humanity) than it does about them.

The ultimate goal is to get immigration to 0.  This is just another tactic to get to that conclusion. All those Trumpers and conservatives who screamed about legal immigration being what they wanted will overlook that the current administration and their accomplices are intentionally making legal immigration impossible for more and more people.

Not sure why it's not embedding, but basically the CBP has a directive asking officers to profile people based on their national origin (Iranian, Lebanese, Palestinian) and their religion and sect (Shia).

Do we need a history lesson on why this is bad?

Quote

The United States government is deporting Salvadorans to face risk of murder and other serious abuse, Human Rights Watch said in a report released today.

The 117-page report, “Deported to Danger: United States Deportation Policies Expose Salvadorans to Death and Abuse,” identifies cases of 138 Salvadorans who, since 2013, were killed after deportation from the United States, and more than 70 others who were beaten, sexually assaulted, extorted, or tortured. Perpetrators of these abuses include gangs, former intimate partners, and Salvadoran police or security personnel.

“US authorities have knowingly put Salvadorans in harm’s way by sending them to face murder and attacks on their safety,” said Alison Parker, managing director of the US Program at Human Rights Watch and co-author of the report. “Salvadorans are facing murder, rape, and other violence after deportation in shockingly high numbers, while the US government narrows Salvadorans’ access to asylum and turns a blind eye to the deadly results of its callous policies.”

A federal ICE agent trying to arrest an undocumented immigrant shot the Brooklyn man’s brother in the face during a wild Thursday morning scuffle, officials and witnesses said.

Two U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, armed with a deportation order, were escorting the wanted man from a home on W. 12th St. near Quentin Road in Gravesend about 8:15 a.m. when his brother jumped into the fray. A single shot was fired, with the bullet tearing through the second sibling’s hand before striking him in the cheek, sources said.

ICE agents busted into a New Yorker's home, grabbed his brother, and when he tried to intervene, they shot him in his hand and his brother in the face.

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/immigration/trump-sign-order-freezing-visas-foreign-workers-through-end-year-n1231782

Quote

President Donald Trump signed an executive order Monday that freezes new visas for foreign workers through the end of the year, citing the need to preserve jobs amid the economic downturn caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

H-1B visas for tech workers, H-2B visas for low-skill jobs, H-4 visas for spouses of certain visa holders and J visas for those participating in work and student exchanges, as well as L visas for intracompany transfers, will all be suspended through Dec. 31.

Why are our "we like legal immigrants, we just want to stop illegal immigrants" conservatives so silent on this?
