How do people go to these rallies and listen to him whine for hours and then think he is a tough guy?

Concentrating on his combover and spray tan is like staring into the sun.   Do it long enough, you'll go blind.

I had to check the dates of the Iranian hostage crisis to explain the wild swings around year 3 of his presidency there.

But that is definitely a bad sign for Trump either way.  He is closest as of year 3 to George H.W. Bush and Jimmy Carter.  And those two, one Republican and one Democrat, both have one thing in common about their reelection campaigns that none of the other four (two Republicans and two Democrats) have.

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/national-security/trump-anger-cost-joseph-maguire-job-director-national-intelligence-n1140086

Quote

President Donald Trump pushed aside his acting director of national intelligence, Joseph Maguire, because he was angry about a briefing to lawmakers that said Russia is interfering in the 2020 election to aid his re-election, current and former intelligence officials briefed on the matter told NBC News.

Now Trump is firing people for reporting facts to lawmakers.

If Trump meant it as a joke, it's not funny. If he's serious, it's terrifying....

The 2035 season of the tv show Hunters will be about tracking down former Trump officials and cult members.  I wonder how many of them end up in Argentina.

Nevada Pro-Trump activists used same day registration to become Democrats, voted Bernie and switched back to Republican.

Now tell me that Trump doesn't want to face Bernie.

And how in the world is this allowed?

Ken - open primaries have traditionally been a good thing. Even in OP's, though, most people vote with their parties, as they care more about ideological agenda items than anything else. That's not the case when your support is a cult of personality, not a political movement

I know it's so 2017 to talk about how unprecedented all this is, but he continues to attack juries, including jury members, federal judges by name & now individual SCOTUS justices.  And- for the umpteenth time- not one damn Republican is brave enough or cares enough to say, "Enough"....

https://www.vox.com/2020/2/25/21150574/trump-coronavirus-cdc-cuts

Trump:

-proposed big CDC and NIH cuts

-killed a USAID pandemic detection program

-fired the entire pandemic chain of comman

-still hasn't put anyone in charge of coordinating Coivd-19 policy

-seems mostly concerned about the stock market re: coronavirus

Not great!

There is an interesting split happening in trump world. Trump is obviously terrified of the virus potential pandemic capabilities but absolutely banking the Chinese will resolve it. Rush is pushing the presidents viewpoint that this is not a big deal at all and people are making up the amount of deaths that are happening in China in order to scare the market and hurt trump’s chances at re-election. In other words, Rush is trump’s Baghdad Bob.
The conspiracy theory zealots of the republican party are actually closer to the truth like Senator Cotton. He’s ballyhooing on twitter how he “called it” on his belief that the virus came from the lab in Wuhan.  It sounds like the bulk of GOP senators are much more aligned with preppers. Senator Shelby was questioning what the trump administration is doing to counteract the spread of coronavirus in a closed door conference. It will be interesting to see how many GOP Senators come out that this is a hair on fire crisis, like Cotton, or be mushmouthed backing trump’s hope like grassley.
This could create quite the schism as i’m seeing a lot of the breitbart type people hyping massive deaths in China as in 100-200k people. Since no one knows what is going on in China, it is best to see how Japan and South Korea are handling the crisis. In another month we should know how serious this is.

Trump has not directed flights into or out of China to stop.  CVOID-19 ("coronavirus") is considered more easily transmissible than Ebola.

You'll be surprised to learn this was false.  "Ebola only spreads through direct contact, such as such as through broken skin or mucous membranes in the eyes, nose, or mouth."

Ha! It's hard to find the words.  Am I missing something?  Is it normal for director level roles to be filled by under 25 y/o personnel finishing their bachelor's?

https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/484641-white-house-hires-college-senior-as-top-trump-official-report

Quote

According to Politico, which cited three administration officials familiar with the reported hire, James Bacon, who is currently studying for his bachelor’s degree, will be the office’s next director of operations.

As surreal as that first quote was, it was bested just a paragraph below:

Quote

He will also work closely under John McEntee, Trump’s former personal assistant who was fired in 2018 and recently rehired to head up the office, according to Politico.

"DarkandStormy, you used to be a conservative as recently as 6 years ago and even attended CPAC 10+ years ago.  Now you seem pretty progressive.  Why did you switch?"

Me:

Also, a supposedly serious conservative member of the forums here continues to push the conspiracy theory that PC police are out to control all speech in this country (the world, even?).

EDIT - this post doesn't exactly fit into one thread neatly.  If it should be moved to the Republican Party thread, that's fine.

The C=conspirators. Conservatives aren't conservatives anymore. At best they're conspiracy theorists. At worst, they're terrorists.

Hence the division within the party.  Conspiracy party thinks everything is a conspiracy when now trump says “Everything is fine!”  “We’re doing great!”
What are his followers to do when there is so much rich material on the internet that the Novel Coronavirus as it was originally called was developed in a military biological lab in Wuhan where the epidemic started.  Why is it novel? Because no one has ever seen anything like it before. This is quite the dilemma for the trumpsters.  Is everything just great like their leader says or is something more sinister happening.  Quite the kerfuffle.

Didn't know that. I was pretty similar, in college I was a McCain '08 guy (to my embarrassment) but was still inspired by Obama's election. After he got in the White House the vitriol, racism, and just plain overreaction to every center left obama policy (IT'S SOCIALIST!!!) coming from the Tea Party and GOP pushed me out of that camp by 2010. Celebrating 10 years voting D this year.

This is literally my path to the Democratic party as well.  The reaction to Obama's election by my friends, family, and the general public was... telling.  I couldn't unsee it and I haven't viewed the Republican party the same since.
