The Trump Presidency

Recommended Posts

Wonder if Pence meant what he said? A Freudian slip? So if Trump is re-elected, will they take steps to ignore more of the Constitution like term limits for presidents or the existence of a bicameral Congress per the Great Compromise to protect against tyranny? That might suit the radical right just fine. Getting rid of or ignoring the House of Representatives and relying on the Senate gives even more power to the less populous, more conservative states and marginalizes the larger more urban and liberal states. Would the Radical Right have the audacity to relegate the House to a ceremonial body in which laws are now created by the Senate, signed into law by the President, and enforced by Bill Barr's Justice Department? Sure. Why not ignore more of the Constitution? Who is going to stop them?

Trump thinks the coronavirus will be gone by April because of "heat," per pool reporters.  Someone forgot their meds this morning.

In other news, his new budget repeals the ACA and slashes Medicaid by nearly $1 trillion in cuts.  Just in case you were under the illusion he was being honest in his SOTU address last week.  Spoiler: he lied.  A lot.

What are the chances that he actually does not know that his budget cuts these programs? I could totally believe that he hasn't actually even looked at his own budget and has zero idea what is in it.

^This is 100% what I believe.  He doesn't care at all about policy.  He only cares about "winning" however he defines that at the moment.

But you'd think that his speech writer would care about not being contradicted the week after the SOTU.  Or, and hear me out on this, maybe they just don't even care about being truthful or consistent?  Say what sounds good in the moment because nobody will care when we do a 180 in a weeks time.

Weird, I don't see "heat" as cited as a reason why the virus is expected to taper off.  Thanks, once again, for supplying an irrelevant point, though.

That would involve something in Trump's head other than some spray tan and a combover.   Of course, the man that won't believe our intelligence officials, generals or scientists has no issues with believing China's President.

The ABA's left bias regarding judges has been a sore point on the right for years.

This is a classic Trump move, because those who object strongly weren't likely to vote for him anyway.

It's marketing as much as anything else.

But Trump’s rosy outlook is also risky because not all outbreaks subside as the weather warms, and this one remains mysterious on several fronts. So far, there’s no vaccine and no conclusions on how it spreads, how to cure it or how long it takes for an infected person to show symptoms. It’s already surpassed milestones set by other disease outbreaks, including the death toll of the SARS outbreak 17 years ago. This week, for the first time, the daily death toll in China has topped 100.

“Although some coronavirus infections are seasonal, only time will tell if the 2019 novel coronavirus will behave this way. Some coronavirus species have peaks in the winter and summer, said Dr. Tom Frieden, former director of the CDC and now president and CEO of Resolve to Save Lives, an initiative focused on preventing epidemics.

Weather’s impact on a disease’s spread, Frieden added, can vary by climate.

“If nCov behaves as influenza behaves, the seasonality seen in temporal climates may not mean seasonality in tropical climates, where influenza can circulate at high levels all year long,” Frieden explained.

I think the issue here is that Trump just takes Xi at his word but hasn't seemed to consult any experts.  But that's his usual MO.  He just says whatever he wants and his sycophants clean up the comments.  Meanwhile, he ran a scare campaign during Ebola which was completely unnecessary.

Can anyone explain to me how private citizen, Rudy Giuliani, is able to share information directly with the attorney general.  Considering that his "research" comes partly from his indicted co-conspirators.  What kind of banana republic have we become?

They didnt resign but they withdrew from the case. NBC News is reporting that Barr is taking control of all cases of interest of Trump including the Stone case. An impeachment of Barr should begin tomorrow.

There's been endless speculation as to why there hasn't been more participation in the Iowa caucuses and the NH primary. Does it just reflect a lack of enthusiasm for the available candidates? (although that would be enough reason). No, it could be that after three years, people are in fact better off, and they're smart enough to see through the media propaganda that's shoveled out on a daily basis😉. I suspect many moderate Democrats are going to gravitate toward Trump in November.

Sixty-two percent give Trump a great deal or fair amount of credit for improvement in the state of the economy in the past few years -- more than the 51% giving former President Barack Obama the same level of credit."

This is why Trump lies so much.  Americans really are too dumb and lazy to care what's true anymore.  They will happily support cuts to their SS and Medicare, clap as their farms go bankrupt and declare victory as they maintain employment at a minimum wage job with no benefits, all while fighting for corporations to have ever lower tax rates and cheer a stock market they have no investments in.  We don't deserve this country, and so we're going to lose it.

I am trying to figure out why Trump has Barr intervene in the Roger Stone case. It seems it would just be easier to pardon him rather than to corrupt the DOJ.

That might as well just have said that Fox keeps telling everyone Obama was bad and Trump was good.  Go off the actual data and you'll see it's very very similar.  The difference being Obama inherited a mess and Trump inherited a solid economy.

295,000 ballots were cast in the Democratic NH primary, which was an all-time record. So what the hell are you talking about?

Or could it be that you don't know what you're talking about again?

Yeah as of tonight, this primary outperformed the 2008 primary (which was the best since 1992) in New Hampshire by nearly 15,000 votes.

But this is interesting...
