King Richard III: Found under a parking lot

Recommended Posts

In the UK, they will probably convert the parking lot to a park with a memorial. In America, the archaeological find would be removed to preserve the parking lot.

they should leave him there, good place for him. let people keep driving over a ruthless dictator like he drove over them. how fitting. of course the idiotic brits will probably want to put a monument to him there.

^ It's remarkable how Europeans (acknowledged generalization) accept 90% of their nations' past as grand and praise-worthy, even the nasty, authoritative blueprints for 20th and 21st century oppression.

I think Richard III's image has been established by Shakespeare (actually that play is one believed by some to have been written by Edward, Earl of Oxford, a Tudor partisan) and the (IMO excellent) movie adaptation visually set in the 1930s.  He's seen as more evil than his contemporaries because the winners write the history.

In America, the property owner would probably build a shrine, and purists would complain about its commercialization.
