I attended an event last night at SmartMart to support a fellow startup CEO friend...before company presentations, SmartMart gave a recap/future updates and by the sound of it there's a really good chance they'll get what they need to convert the entire 350k sq ft into the City Block tech hub.

Wait a minute, 35k ft(2)?

What are they going to do with the other 300k ft(2)?

The tweet has a typo. The article says 350k sq ft.

I'm all for new direction, and these new suites that are supposed to go inside TT are a great new luxury addition considering the amount of history is in this building. Now starting a blockchain? It's like starting a new federal reserve like Cleveland has supported even in the past. We wouldn't have a Federal Reserve if it weren't for the Big Wigs back in the early 1900's. Crypto is the future, mark my words, and I would be glad to call my hometown crypto capital of the world.

I never considered the irony that the real Fed and the crypto "fed" could end up being right across the street from one another.

Folks, the project-specific development threads are for discussion of actual activity or directly related chat. If you have something to say that isn’t related or want to continue discussion of a tangent, you are welcome and encouraged to create a new thread.

Everyone is also encouraged to take time to read threads (and other sources) and gain a better understanding of real estate, development and construction so discussions can be more mature than “so and so built _____, why can’t ______ get built???”

Found out from a co-worker who's leaving to work for OnShift that the company will be moving into offices in Tower City. I am not sure whether this will be a complete move of the company or just an expansion, but they are currently located in Playhouse Square. However, the news I wasn't expecting to hear was when my co-worker mentioned that Google will apparently be located 2 floors above them! Looks like maybe the hiring manager or whoever they interviewed with spilled the beans here? Regardless, I am much more confident about City Block's success than ever before now 🤩

Better yet, I would not be supprised if the dinosaur mayor is reinstalling pay phones.

Well he's kind of old school so he figures his grandkids still use them for their business ventures.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t Google have a stake in Bernie Moreno’s Ownun?  Could that be what’s being referenced or do we expect a larger Google presence?

Haven’t heard that anywhere. Other than their identical color scheme that someone pointed out.

City of Cleveland Sustainability Office has been moving out in the past month. They're all but moved out now.

They may be growing again, but it looks like they took a step backwards first.

The article makes it sound more of a restructuring and reevaluation of staffing needs because at the same time they laid off 31, there were plans to hire 20 immediately and continue to hire in the near future.

Onshift is going into the Post Office Plaza, which is attached to Tower City, if what I heard is correct.  Not sure about the Google thing but I do know that major renovation multiple floors are going to be underway soon.

I just confirmed with a friend who works there - they will be moving to post office plaza next year.

In response to my question, Bernie Moreno says he has no information about Google putting offices at Tower City Center/Post Office Plaza.

My guess is that they let go of mostly non-R&D employees in order to hire more employees for their R&D/software development department. In the article, Bowman states that the company is embarking on their largest software development investment yet and this falls in line with the fact that my co-worker who's leaving for OnShift, works with me in the R&D department of our company

From my buddy who works there, the people they let go were software developers.. he's in sales, so his job was safe.

Brooks Brothers is currently undergoing a remodel. They're going to be mostly consolidating to the first floor, and re-arranging registers and merchandise.  Bedrock is committed to keeping them around as long as possible.

^ ^^ I agree, it’s a shame to lose the second level, but I hope it’s done sympathetically. I can’t claim to have been in every BB in the country, but I’ve been in plenty and IME only the flagship store on Madison Ave in Manhattan is a more splendid store than Tower City.

I know Congressman Gonzalez. He’s a great guy and it’s awesome seeing him get our people in front of Silicon Valley businesses. Bernie was on the trip as well so it could have implications for Blockland. The article hit a theme that I’m constantly preaching about over and over and over and over again. Sometimes Cleveland isn’t an option for people because they don’t know anything about us and our region. THIS is why I support almost anything that increases our presence and put more eyeballs on the city. It’s important

Cityblock has evolved into more of a broader entrepreneurial hub. Here's some new renderings. I'll have better copies and more details later...
