Cincinnati: Downtown: New Parking Garage at 7th & Broadway

Recommended Posts

Giant garages could rise up in downtown Cincinnati

Business Courier - by Dan Monk - Thursday, October 21, 2010, 12:12pm EDT

Public and private investors are marshalling resources for a pair of garage projects that could bring more than 2,500 new parking spaces to the eastern edge of downtown.

The new garages, which could cost more $40 million to build, are not likely to open before 2012. That means they would be too late to help an estimated 1,500 monthly parkers who will lose access at Broadway Commons when construction on the Harrah’s downtown casino begins in November. But new garage construction on any time frame is welcome news to those in charge of filling downtown office space.

Honestly, I'd give 'em all bus passes at this point.  >_<

Seriously, 2500 spaces means the east side of DT is going to be THE center of business activity downtown.  Building QCS not only shifted the skyline to the east, but also the center.  This along with W&S's feasibility study provides evidence of the shift.

I hope the build them with some street level presence.

Not much chance of that happening.  The area in question is on the very outsquirts of the CBD toward the entrance to 471.  It's a good area for hulking parking garages, but not for retail.

I've been told that when the 7th & Broadway hotel was stalled due to a lack of financing, W&S approached the City to partner and boost the number of that garage from around 800 to 1,500.  Now that the Hotel & new garage seem to be back up and running, I wonder if that will change the city/W&S partnership on the 7th & culvert garage.  I hope the City is NOT putting millions into a 600 space garage at 7th & sycamore AND a 1500 space garage at 7th and Culvert.  We'll end up with no space for apartments because it's all filled with garages.
