  1. We aren't allowed to trap anything. We have to leave an out. You can thank the fed oversight for that.
  2. Ya. And a vacant office space doesn't do anyone good. If you eat up all the commercial vacant space and demand cones back for commercial downtown it will require new construction. And developers will find a way to make it happen if the demand is strong enough.
  3. Just as a heads up a family member of mine retired a few years ago as Partner Emirtus from Tucker Ellis. Before we go down that rabbit hole they have no intentions of leaving.
  4. I do agree with this to an extent. We do need more police because right now we are insufficient to even properly investigate violent crime. Mental health services, public transit, etc is extremely important. But there are legitimate people who need to be in jail and right now we aren't able to effectively make that happen. The court system isn't helping either for that matter. My job is super jaded because all I deal with is the five percent ruining it for the 95. But there are plenty of good people who deserve to live their lives in peace no matter what Income level.
  5. Latepy the guys leaving to the inner ring haven't been coming back. Still about fifty percent for the exurbs. A ton of guys have gone to the sheriff's and RTA and none of them have come back.
  6. Really the biggest change out of this kind of buried in the details is the Mayor and others having a convo with the Juvi Courts. For too long they've been giving violent Juvis slaps on the wrist and no one holds the judges accountable because their decisions are sealed. There's all this protocol for arresting Juvis. You have to call down to the Juvi center to see if they'll even take them, and ninety percent of the time they say no. I've seen a handful of times Juvis who are arrested for Aggravated Robbery / GTMV, they have us take them to their parents instead. So now you have this culture of kids who don't think they can get into trouble for anything. Sorry for the errors I'm doing this on my phone while running around.
  7. It's been going on for years and has gotten nowhere. Before my police days I worked on the other side of government and had the pleasure of being in meeting where regionalization was tossed around as a solution to alot of our tax problems. No one seemed to want to go in that direction. And now with work from home really strengthening a lot of these smaller municipalities (excluding the ones that rely on business tax) I would say there's no chance in hell. On top of that the worker shortage has pretty much guaranteed that no one is fully staffed and therefore overstaffed with glut. Everyone, and I mean everyone is down public employees in this region from 2016.
  8. Doubtful considering police alone we have like 1500 less than the 80s
  9. I went to college and law school at Creighton University and spend six years of my life in Omaha. It really started to see renewal after I left. It's a good city with some great assets. The zoo is one of the best in the nation. The college world series is a must go atleast once. But once you take Dodge passed 71st it's just anywhere in America suburbs.
  10. Ya. I mean the real win is a handful of people who may have never come here possibly planning a trip to come back or they tell their friends and it snowballs from there.
  11. Ya. Exactly. Wednesday is by far the busiest day for office population. It's pretty much a normal rush house.
  12. You go on that cruise that goes out of Kiel or Copenhagen? My parents are doing one that hits all those cities next month.
  13. I worked all of the days downtown. It seemed like a well attended weekend long event. Not overly busy but not dead either. I'm sure it will pick up steam in years to come.
  14. So the city IS responsible for how bad the boulevard on Clifton and the shoreway looks. It's embarrassing. Especially for a premier neighborhood in Edgewater.
  15. Everytime I think we are out of office space to convert then something happens (pandemic) and tons more office space comes on the market. We seemed to be turning the corner to new construction as both CC and SHW were in the works pre pandemic. I'd guess a few more years of conversions before it's new build or nothing.
  16. It's a weird spot. They're open on random days it feels like, but when they are open they somehow are busy.
  17. Guys. I work downtown. There's plenty of foot traffic. It ebbs and flows depending on the time. I get it's not like 1900s foot traffic but sheesh. I've been in downtown Chicago walking around with light foot traffic before. It just depends on time of day.
  18. Glad you're okay, also not surprised. I've been on homicide scenes where people have been killed for less. It almost always over something that most of us would find trivial. Alcohol is always involved. Just be aware most stuff doesn't make the news, and if it does like half the facts are wrong. Because it's an open investigation and the police aren't gonna comment, they usually go to the crazy neighbor who says they saw it all and just put whatever they said as the story.
  19. Cleveland scene or maybe Crains ran an article in re: non profits filling in the gap for training people to fill those jobs. I think that's a big issue everywhere though. We certainly could do a better job promoting manufacturing as a viable pathway to a good life.
  20. I agree. My united flight home is brutal. It's a half day of travelling for no reason. But glad to hear that you plan to go back out again at some point. But ya, I'm going for my buddies bachelor party, and staying at the condo. We are all over thirty and some of us have kids so our plan is hike in the AM and beat the heat, and then sit at the pool for the rest of the day . Maybe go to Palm Springs one day. I'm a big tennis fan so I want to go back out in March for the Indian Wells Masters tournament which is a pretty big tournament.
  21. Beautiful photos. My parents have a Condo in Palm Desert so I am out there pretty frequently. In fact I'm going in a few weeks. The Living Desert Zoo is an amazing zoo, and the hiking trail up Mt. Eisenhower inside the zoo is a must do if you ever go back. I've hiked halfway up Mt San Juacinto and it is a brutal hike especially as the sun starts to come out, even in the winter months. I have yet to use the Aerial Tram but those pictures look cool. Joshua Tree is one of my favorite places, especially hidden valley, it's just such a unique place.
  22. Oh ya absolutely. I guess what I was trying to say is Cleveland specifically probably has a net positive of occupied housing units for the first time in a long time but because there's less people in units it haa not made a difference.
  23. First it was people leaving the city, now it's a dramatic change in household sizes. For example, Lakewood lost population while adding units.
