  1. Okay everyone, let's put up a few hundred hand-wringing posts so Terdolph knows we really truly find gun violence disturbing.
  2. Okay folks, for those who mentioned a lunch get together closer to mid-December, now is your chance! Since last time at Market/1801 East Ninth Street worked well with the communal tables, we're going to go with that again. And this time around we have a SPECIAL GUEST attending Wednesday, December 11th at Noon For info about the venue: https://themarket.cafebonappetit.com/ Feel free to post here or message me if you can attend - see you then!
  3. Word on the street in Tremont is the lot at West 11th and Fairfield (gravel lot at southwest corner) has finally changed hands. I was told the initial proposal was for around 90 rental units but was revised to around 60. All of this would explain the heavy equipment on the lot immediately south of the Southside as that will be their new parking area. This is the site in question.
  4. Just so it's absolutely clear, the only people who determine who does/doesn't enjoy the privilege of participation in any given thread are the Admins and Mods. If someone with a contrarian viewpoint is violating forum rules (i.e. insults, trolling, etc.), anyone is welcome to report the offending posts and they will be promptly dealt with. However, if someone with a contrarian stance is simply posting their viewpoints and being genuine/respectful, they are welcome to do so. The Admins and Mods provide these sections as a courtesy, even though they aren't core to the site's purpose. If it's too much for anyone on any part of the political spectrum to be civil to other forumers, there are plenty of message boards, blogs, and other outlets that would probably be more appropriate.
  5. Best I could do, can you believe my husband wouldn’t stop to let me get a photo from the Innerbelt?

    Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm thankful for everyone (well, almost everyone! ) who appreciates and/or contributes to the forum. As I mentioned at our recent lunch meetup, if someone had told me back in 2004 when we started that we'd have the membership and activity levels we have now, I never would have believed them. As far as a favorite project? I'm just thankful that there are too many for me to keep up - waaaay different from when we started the forum!
  7. Yes indeed, nice turnout of ten forumers great to meet/see everyone! It’s always interesting to get to put a face to the screen name. As I mentioned up thread and today, quite a few said a mid-December event might work so be on the lookout for an announcement in the near future. We’ll probably use a Doodle survey like @GISguy set up for us to get agreeable days. Hope everyone has a safe and happy Thanksgiving!
  8. Okay, I will be grabbing one of the communal tables by the East Ninth Street windows. Just look for the signal!
  9. This thread will be reopened soon but please keep the baseless speculation to a minimum.
  10. In the vein of the "ten year challenge" thing that's going around the interwebs, I dug up a few pics from back in November 2009.
  11. As important as all this discussion is, it pales in comparison to THIS announcement!
  12. It’s all good, looking like we will have a small lunch group for the 27th and then plan another meetup in December
  13. So the preliminary results are showing Wednesday, November 27th from 12-1ish is the best day/time - should we go ahead and make it official? We can always have another one later in December for those who mentioned that might be preferable
  14. I believe the space has been closed for quite some time but I found this photo from Socially Artistic Wedding Planner's Facebook page. Always had a soft spot for this place; back in 2002 when they still served lunch, I signed my book deal with Arcadia Publishing right about where that round table on the far left is.
  15. As others have said - you get what you pay for. A lot of the complaints I see are people not keeping expectations realistic or reading the fine print (if Spirit can add a charge for a product/service, they will). If you're okay with basic (very basic) transportation, it's fine albeit certainly not spa-like for shorter flights (2ish hours). We've taken it to Vegas and had no complaints - on our last flight, we paid for exit row seats which I recommend for the leg room. It also turned out that the two window seats (next to me and diagonal left in front) were broken with big red "Do Not Occupy" decals. On one hand it was very much Greyhound of the Skies, on the other hand I had sooo much room to stretch my legs and store my bags, etc. Regarding canceled flights - we've been fortunate but my understanding is that happens with Spirit/Frontier because they don't have an agreement with the non-ultra low cost carriers (any experts, please feel free to correct me).
  16. Okay, after a little reconnaissance work, looks like Market is our best bet. So the next question is what days/times look good for everyone?
