    • There is no right to own guns in New Zealand as fas as I’m aware, so rights aren’t actually being taken away.  The consequences just seem to be a much lower crime rate and a handful of mass shootings in 22 years. And the idea that self defense can only be accomplished by packing heat is a purely American concept.  It’s a self-fulfilling and contradictory cultural flaw, where so many guns make our society more dangerous, causing many to believe we need them to be safe.
    • both can be problems worked on simultaneously. We currently have a lawsuit going through the courts about the extreme partisan gerrymandering in Ohio. It would only affect the 2020 election since it would be redrawn after the 2020 census. But it is still important precedent.
    • When I was last in San Francisco, I visited a friend who lived in a new building in Dogpatch and I wondered if it could be Camp Washington in some distant future. The neighborhoods have many similarities.  1) Sandwiched by a large highway (I-75 and Southern Embarcadaro) and no man's land (railyards and the bay) 2) That highway separates the neighborhood from a hilly neighborhood (CUF and Protrero Hill) 3) Both have histories of being heavily industrial (railyards vs shipping yards)   I'm sure there are more similarities. And perhaps even bigger differences that don't make this a very worthwhile comparison. In any case, I saw how the development there could be a model for the development in Camp Washington. Streetcar extension from Rhinegeist, to Colerain, to Spring Grove, to Northside. Boom baby.   https://goo.gl/maps/VhSmfescJv32
    • ^ This is a well reasoned take and again seeks to address the issue on a local state level instead of abdicating citizen responsibilities and power to those in the larger states.
    • Concerned citizens should worry less about the Electoral College, and more about the rampant gerrymandering which DOES take power away from cities, especially in states like Ohio where state wide Democrats can win 60% of the votes and only win 40% of the house seats.
